Mediumship Capstone
The Evidential Mediumship Academy course has given me a rich and rigorous education and training with a high standard of excellence, honor, and reverence for the service of Mediumship.
The program has rooted me in many aspects to consider as I develop and move forward with my work as a medium. In my reflection, I will discuss the personal growth, spiritual knowledge, and theory that have contributed to expanding my understanding of the values important in honoring both worlds, human and spirit, through mediumistic expression.
My personal growth has excelled in the evidential mediumship programs' extensive curriculum topics. I have further developed my mediumship through self-awareness, reflection, mentorship feedback, weekly tutorials, and practice readings. In these areas of personal growth, I have come to gain further insights into the fears, insecurities, and doubts that underline and limit my mediumship readings.
The mediumship training's practical, theoretical, and historical aspects have provided me with a solid foundation and structure to work within. It has also provided me with a supportive container of expectations that impresses a high code of standard for a medium's work. I have come to appreciate mediumship as a discipline rooted in love. As any parent or guardian knows, without discipline, a child can become reckless and a child without love can be forgotten. For this reason, I’ve come to understand mediumship as a discipline that requires both an act of devotion to the highest standard of the craft and pure love in communicating with the departed. As Mavis expressed time and time again, “You must love the spirit world” while equally emphasizing the importance of accurately representing the communication of the person in spirit. With that, it becomes a marriage of discipline and love.
I have always believed and experienced that personal development evolves any area of work or practice in which you wish to excel. I’ve come to understand that you must be willing to confront everything that prevents you from being a master of your work. Conversely, it would be best never to let apathy stop you from becoming even more significant within the service to mediumship.
This echoes Mavis Pittilla’s conviction that there is no such thing as a perfect medium, and you must never rest on your laurels, no matter how long you have been doing it or how good you think you are. Mavis, a true master herself, always continued to develop and uncover new possibilities within her mediumship service, and this has continued to support and inspire my journey as a medium.
The practicum months are where I had the most personal growth. All our classes and training coalesced into a series of frightening events for the novice medium. I learned to embrace the spiritual understanding and it’s not about you, but your service and devotion to heal both worlds. This understanding was crucial as the program certainly pushed me into uncomfortable places. I knew I was a diamond rough coming to have my sharp edges smoothed and my resistance softened. The psychic practicum was the juncture that challenged my resistance to surrendering to spirit. I had to decide whether I would grow some wings and take flight or crash and burn in the flames of my fear. The practicum month expanded my personal growth to understand that It’s not about what you do; it’s about who you become in the process, and through the psychic practicum, I grew some wings.
It was the strength of Mavis’s spiritual philosophy, that one must absolutely love the spirit world, that carried me forward. I leaned into my understanding of my power and Claire’s for the support I needed. I said to myself before each practice reading; this is a journey of remembrance, a soul-to-soul connection for healing, and off I went, surprising even myself. I realized it is about connecting to the heart of the soul and saying, awe, what a fantastic, complicated, beautiful life you have had. Please tell me about your dreams, hardships, and accomplishments. Let my humanity touch yours, and let your spirit speak.
With this understanding, I could step out of my fear of failure and step into my power for the sake of healing and love, which has been my understanding of what is at the heart of mediumship, which threads through the brilliant teachings of Mavis Pittilla.
Throughout the year-long program, I learned that serving the spirit world takes great courage and humility. To be a conduit of communication of departed loved ones means that you must be willing to be vulnerable. You must be willing to let go, trust in spirit and yourself. It requires a cultivation of faith for yourself and in the spirit world. Each reading asks you to step into unknown territory, where there is no clear beginning or end, just a series of peaks and valleys, as the person in spirit blends with you to unfold their deepest wishes and desires for communication.
I am truly grateful to have participated in this program and I’am confident that I can continue my journey as a developing medium.
