Reflection and Reverence
Hello Sweet Souls,
As I write to you the rain is tapping on my studio rooftop. The sound brings me peace and connects me deeper into my own nature. As I look out the window the clouds are sitting low in the sky and the light is just beginning to break through the fog. After being saturated from the precipitation of the night fall the ground sits in rich dark tones of green, brown and red. The branches of the tree, weighted by water, are hanging lower than usual. I almost feel the need to shake the water free, so the branches don't break, but nature tells me the branches are just fine and don't need my help. The birds can take care of the excess water as the branches provide a landing pad with just enough umph as they land to unburden the leaves. The thirsty earth is content and too full to move. The rapping of the the rain continues and I feel a sense of reverence growing within me. A reverence for life and for the gracious earth that supports all living things. Any lack I feel begins to dissipate in the awareness that everything I need is already present within me.
If you have been receiving and reading my monthly letters, you know I love to reflect on the energy and quality of the season to attune to my own cyclical nature. Although the season is reflecting stillness, conservation, and solitude. Our outer world has a much different narrative promoting another iteration of busyness. We often feel obligated to attend every holiday gathering, subjected to guilt gifting and entrapped by borage of holiday treats, and visually accosted by store shelves heaping over with conveniently packaged christmas gifts of all kinds.
"Don't I need need that matching robe and slipper set? Well, if I don't, maybe someone should have it. Or maybe I could buy the candy cane filled with 35 pairs of different colored socks. I mean at least its practical. Who doesn't wear socks?"
I may sound like the holiday grinch, but on the contrary I love the christmas holiday. I love dressing my home in the holiday spirit. I love the smell of pine wafting through my house and how the tiny lights on my tree and table tops add magic and a spark to the dark evenings and overcast mornings. And let me tell you gift GIVING is my number one LOVE language. However, this year our financial resources have been prioritized for other things and instead of feeling lack I'm attuning even more to the spirit of the season. I'm finding ways to give that don't require as much spending and within that gesture I notice a deep inner reflecting of how I can satisfy my generosity of gift giving.
We all have our holiday cross to bear, yours may different than mine, but all the same, let us look to the season of spirit to find more joy, peace and fulfillment in the presence gratitude. Let's invite our hearts into less is more. Let us reflect on the beauty around us and all the wonderful people in our lives. Let us be reverent to the magic that breathes life into everything. It's not about things, it about the love that holds ALL things.
